A warm welcome back
We hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable Easter break, although we know that the holiday ended rather sadly for many of you.
In our thoughts...
We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mark Dredge, proud father of Finley and Bradley, and uncle of Sophie and Mia. Our entire school community has been rocked by Mark's untimely death and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to all of Mark's family.
Also, in our thoughts...
We would also like to offer our condolences to Annie White, our Finance Officer, whose father died on Wednesday after a long illness. Our thoughts and prayers are with Annie and her daughter Mollie at this difficult time.
A busy first week back...
We have a busy first week back! Many children were creative during the holidays making Easter hats and decorating hardboiled eggs, which they brought into school on Tuesday. Their efforts were judged whilst the children went searching for their Easter eggs and the new golden eggs. I am relieved that I did not have to judge, as their creations were all fabulous. The children who won prizes are: Thomas, Joshua, Edward W, Lacey A, Ania, Mia H, Kizzi, Holly, Georgina, Bea, Molly M, Patrick, Ayla and Ellis. Well done everyone!
On Wednesday afternoon, the children took part in a special environment event; they had to work well in their house teams to transport water without wasting any. I hope that we will have some photos for you very soon.
On Friday we presented Headteacher Awards to: Reggie, Indigo, Florence, Jaelin, Natalia, Sienna, Charli, Catalina and Isla. Well done everyone!

During our last Headteacher Awards for the spring term, we had lots to celebrate!
Firstly, we recognised the achievements of children who have worked hard in each class. Well done to: Harriett, Iris, Sonny, Zoja, Alfie, Anish, Charlotte, Aphie, George, Alfie, Cali, Patrick, Etienne and Aimee-Leigh.
We also congratulated the Year 3 children who won prizes for their Science Fair presentations. I am sure it was very difficult for the staff to choose their winners, as there were so many brilliant exhibits and experiments. Lots of learning and lots of fun! Well done to everyone in Year 3!
Special awards were also given to a group of Year 4 children who showed great determination, enthusiasm and friendship while on their residential to Liddington. Again, I know that staff would have found it difficult to choose children for these special awards, because they all achieved so much in those three days. Well done to everyone in Year 4! I was also able to pass on my personal thanks to my staff who accompanied the children on this fantastic trip, and the children presented them with Easter Eggs.
We also said 'thank you and goodbye for now' to Mrs Davies as she leaves us to go on maternity leave.
I hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable Easter holiday.

I hope you have all had the chance to look at the other blogs; the children and staff have been so busy this week.
On Tuesday the School Council ran a very successful Cake Sale, which the choir performed at; thank you to everyone who donated and purchased cakes. The raffle for the giant red noses was drawn; thank you to everyone who bought tickets and congratulations to the winners. Here are two of them:
On Wednesday a group of Key Stage 1 Pupil Premium children had the opportunity to attend a sports festival. Also, a group Year 3 children performed in the finale concert for the Year of the Recorder with 11 other schools.
From Wednesday to Friday, our Year 4 children went on their residential visit to Liddington. Looking at their photographs, the children tried lots of new activities, challenged themselves and had great fun along the way. A massive thank you to the staff who accompanied them, and a big well done to all of the children.
This morning, we celebrated the achievements of these children: Sophia, Benjamin, Tolly, Nate, Oscar, Pablo, Gabriel and Fred. Well done to all of you!

Wow! What a busy fun-filled week we have had!
On Monday and Tuesday, our Year 3 children visited the Earth Science Centre. Take a look at their blog; they appeared to have a lot of fun learning about rocks.
On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day. Nearly every child and adult came to school dressed as a book character. Thank you to everyone for your fantastic efforts. I'm not sure who enjoyed dressing up the most - the adults or the children!
Here are our Key Stage 2 children:
And, here is the Enormous Crocodile...!
There are more World Book Day photographs on some of the Year Group Blogs, and I will be uploading more photographs onto the Website Gallery within the next couple of days.
It was lovely to see so many children return to school on Thursday evening for Bedtime Stories. Thank you to all of my staff who stayed to read to the children and to the Friends of St John's Team who provided the hot chocolate, biscuits and marshmallows.
We celebrated children's achievements in our Headteacher Awards Collective Worship on Friday morning. Well done to: Xaffi, Jamie, Frank, Tilly, Patrick, Aisha, Paris, Mikey, Zac, Patrycja and Rowan!

Yet another busy week at St John's! Year 3 have been rehearsing hard in the hall, ready for their performance this week, Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed 'The Three Little Pigs Gazebo' and sharing stories with Year 4 children, and Year 1 have been on a material hunt!
The grown ups have also been really busy! Ms Bolton led the rest of the teachers in their Professional Development Meeting on 'Putting Learning First', and I attended a very interesting conference on 'Growth Mindset' on Friday.
Headteacher Awards were presented for: having a great first week at St John's, working hard on writing and number, being the best they can, using lots of adjectives and adverbs in story writing, telling the time, recognising numbers to 10, joining in really well, using speech marks, not giving up, science experiments, growing in confidence, enthusiasm to learn, punctuating questions correctly and understanding fractions.
Well done to: Oleander, Aimee, Ruben, Jude, Ava, Telia, Adina, Mia, Sonny, Bea, Jago, Alya, Alice G and Luke!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our survey about core values. Based on the results from children, staff, parents and governors, we have chosen Friendship, Aspiration and Respect for our school's core values. These fit brilliantly with our strapline - 'Learning together, aiming high!
