Today in Year 4 was Egyptian Day. Not only did we all dress up but spent the day making Egyptian artefacts. During the morning we made canonic jars using foil, masking take, tissue paper and a lot of glue.
In the afternoon we made Ankh symbols using spaghetti and yet more glue.
We all had a great time. Finished artefacts will be added later.

Today, we emptied out our pots of natron salt to see what our pieces of apple would look like. We reminded ourselves, using adjectives, what the apple was like before and shared ideas about what it would like now. Some of us were correct and some of us remembered what Tutankhamen looked like when we saw his photo.
When we held the apple it felt rubbery and very soft, the opposite to what we started with.

On Monday, we were lucky enough to have Barry Cunningham visit our school. He spoke to use about how he discovered J K Rowling and her story, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. As well as answering some of our questions, he also told us about the competition he is running for our school. Details can be found in another post.

This week in Sycamore, we have been learning about the mummification process that was used by the Ancient Egyptians. To replicate this, we have set up an experiment to mummify a piece of apple. We have combined salt and bicarbonate of soda to act as natron.
We also had great fun turning Fred into a mummy!

In RE this term, we are learning about how Christains believe the world was Created. We have learnt that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh.
We have looked at how he must have felt after he had finsihed and how we feel after we have created something we are proud off. Following this, we discussed how we can take care of the things we have created and have come up with a list of how we can and should look after the world God created for us.
